Question by Mama Cass: how much should I pay for childcare for 2 children four days per week?

My son is 3 years old and my daughter is 3 months old and I have to go back to work. A friend of the family is going to watch them from 8 to 3 monday thru thursday. She wants me to find out a reasonable amount for her to charge. Does anyone from the midwest or Nebraska have a suggestion for what is charged for non-licensed childcare? Either a daily or an hourly rate would work. Thanks!

I paid -/hour, but your best bet is to find out what people are charging in your home town or city. Childcare rates vary widely, and if you could poll your friends, you'd get a much more accurate answer. If you don't know who to ask, ask mothers that you meet at the park what they pay. They should be happy to help.
