How does a differential works during a turn?

I know how the differential works in general when the vehicle is traveling in a straight direction. But I kind of confused on how the pinion gears on the pinion shaft helps the side gear during a turn. Please, any information is helpful. Thank you in advance.

The left and the right wheel turns faster to keep up with the inside wheel when turning left or right.
