Mark Twain recommends Playaway
Playaways, the new and better format for audiobooks, are finally making their debut at the Newton Free Library. They are shelved the in AV Department at the beginning of the audiobooks section. A few Pimsleur language courses are there, as are novels and some non-fiction. If patrons like this format we will purchase more and more. In case you don't know the format, it's a small MP3 player, about the size of a credit card, with an entire audiobook already loaded on it. All a patron needs is an AAA battery and headphones to hear it. You can stop and resume as you want, the Playaway will keep your place. With these devices patrons won't get frustrated with audio-discs that don't play all the way through. It's a win for everyone. They should appeal to all ages, as young people are so used to listening to anything with headphones, and the elderly and those who have trouble with machines should find it very easy to navigate the button commands. To listen in the car, you just need an adapter to play through your car radio. The Children's Room also has a Playaway collection.

What book did I bring with me on "vacation" in Wisconsin? The Happiest Days of Our Lives. (I'm trying to think happy thoughts.)
